Is The Samsung LN40C630 The Best Buy HDTV?

What's the best buy HDTV? The answer can be really tough since there are numerous models from multiple brands. Frankly speaking the best buy depends more on your requirements and budget rather than what the manufacturer of a particular brand has to offer.

If you are looking for a feature rich HDTV and have a budget just shy of $1000, then you may want to have a look at the Samsung LN40C630.

Samsung HDTV models have carved out a niche for themselves in this crowded market buoyant with products launched almost every day. The Samsung LN40C630 40-Inch LCD HDTV lives up to the expectations you would normally have from a Samsung machine.

Let’s take a closer look at what would be a best buy HDTV. Best to begin with its design since that’s the first thing you would see when you look at the TV. The edges are glossy black and transparent. The controls have a touch sensitive response that would satisfy even the most demanding users. The panel depth is about 3.2 inches and the bezel width is about 1.6 inches.

The panel is mounted on a swivel stand that has a transparent column placed on a glass base. To put the look and feel (aesthetics) in a nut shell; it’s sleek and minimalistic.

The remote however is not much different from the previous models. It’s the standard Samsung 2010 remote with backlit keys. The keys are grouped logically so it’s intuitive. The remote is functional and easy to use.

The control menus consist of the standard options. The menu options are intuitive and easy to read in pleasant transparent blue color. The menu options are accompanied by text explanations but I doubt many will make use of it given the intuitiveness of the menu options.

The HDTV makes use of LCD display technology. The screen has a matte finish which is how I prefer my LCDs. This avoids unnecessary reflection that you would get with the glossy screens. The refresh rate is 120 Hz for this model and it boasts some other useful features like video streaming and accessing photos via DLNA or USB.

On the downside there’s no internet connectivity which is pretty much the norm in any HDTV you buy today. Also there’s no wireless HDMI connection on the Samsung LN40C630. So whether or not this machine is a best buy HDTV really depends on what you really want out of a HDTV.

The picture settings on the Samsung LN40C630 40-Inch LCD HDTV are really impressive. In fact it is similar to what you would find in some of the high end Samsung high definition televisions. There is a 10 point greyscale control system that is a potent mix with the dejudder control system and the color management system. These options combined give you a lot of control over the desired picture quality.

Other features worth mentioning include the power saver mode, ambient light sensor and option for manual on/off of the screen. Overall this is a fine Samsung HDTV.
