Our Flat Panel Monitor Review of the Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR2

A flat panel monitor review is a way of finding useful information before buying any electronics. The more reviews you read on specific models or brand names the better you'll be able to choose a reliable product that has few flaws and technical problems.

A flat panel monitor review is an expression of one’s personal opinion but beware of LCD reviews done by top manufacturers.

(Reviewed 8/8/06) The Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR2 LCD TV reviewed. The perforated and silver colored Sony XBR2 has a shiny black monitor and provides distinct and crisp pictures for viewing. There is no difference found between the XBR2 and the XBR3. The better choice is the XBR2 for its cost, which does not include the optional bezels.

The XBR2 provides the exact performance as the XBR3 model. The XBR2 accepts standard definition and HDTV video sources. It has three digital HDMI inputs, two component video inputs, three composite inputs, one S-video plus a 15-pin VGA PC. So this LCD TV has plenty of inputs and outputs including one for your computer.

The remote can handle three other components in addition to the LCD TV. It's well laid out, intutive and the important buttons are next to the central joystick. Even though the controls aren't backlit it's easy to use in the dark.

Sony, like many manufacturers, has a disclaimer about bad pixels. It does not tell you how many bad pixels constitute a flaw; it just mentions it in the safety instructions. You will want to hook up a theater sound system to experience all the full affects of the monitor.

In our flat panel monitor review we found that the Sony Bravia works well as a wall mounting electronic device. Prior to mounting the monitor insure all your hook ups are working properly. This will prevent mounting and remounting since the directions may not always follow the rule of thumb to hook up additional sources.

Define your total need for a monitor because what you hook up to the monitor will make a big difference on your screen. If you are planning to use this as a gaming monitor you’ll need to check the specifications in order to assure that you will not be ruining the LCD.

Conclusion : The Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR2 has excellent 1080p resolution with HDTV programming and decent performance with standard def. It has impressive blacks for an LCD but still can't equal the Panasonic or Pioneer plasmas.

The bad thing about the Sony XBR2; Sony does not explain the amount of bad pixels to be considered irregular. Our flat panel monitor review says that the XBR2 is just as good as the XBR3 except you will have to add the bezels later on as an upgrade.
