Simply put, the Fujitsu plasma has the best PQ

There's no disputing it, the Fujitsu plasma (P42VHA40US) EDTV is the Mercedes Benz in the 42 inch EDTV screen size. This plasma is very hard to get with ANY form of discount on it.

Most dealers make you pay the full price.

Something you may want to consider is Fujitsu is no longer making plasma TVs. They have focused their business on LCD TVs.  Here's a link to the Fujitsu P42VHA40US  EDTV owners manual. Want to read some  other Fuji's owner plasma manuals.

In the case of the Fujitsu whether HD or SD the processor is superior to the Panny and NEC. It renders smoother pictures, has better contouring  and has better blacks. Being simply better allows Fujitsu as a brand to command a price premium to other manufacturers.

This Fujitsu plasma 42-inch-diagonal EDTV has a native resolution of 852 by 480, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and a range of input options, including S-video, component video, and HDMI.

Fujitsu has updated its highly regarded 10-bit AVM processor, now labeled AVM-II, which features improved noise reduction, text optimization, ambient light sensing and “Advanced Color Management. They call it the Advanced Video Movement-II digital video processor. More on that later.

In the local Brick and Mortar stores the Fujitsu P42VHA40US was noise free with a SD satellite feed, and virtually noise free with an HDTV signal or DVD signal. In all cases, the Fuji was more noise free than other panels (remember the Fuji has 852 x 480 pixels res).

This partly made up for the fact that the Fuji is 852 x 480 pixels. On HDTV feeds there were a small amount of detail/info missing (as compared to what could be seen on higher resolution LCD TV's and a nearby 50" Panny 1280 x 768 panel).

The color and thickness of the Fujitsu plasma bezel might turn some people off.  The Fuji bezel is shiny and distracting. It looks plasticky. Compare that to the Panny's minimalist look which emphasizes the display--well what can I say. It's your living room. I just think they should have made the plasma with a sleeker design.

This is an explanation of the Advanced Video Movement-II digital video processor (pulled right from the Fuji website  www.plasmavision.com)

Fujitsu General has developed the AVM-II (Advanced Video Movement) digital video signal processor, which features four distinct improvements to enhance the already award-winning picture quality of Plasmavision monitors.

While retaining the unique features provided by the AVM, Plasmavision Monitors include four innovative enhancements provided by the AVM- II: AVM Noise Reduction, Picture Text Optimizer, Ambient Light Sensor, and Advanced Color Management.

AVM Noise Reduction

Reduces the "digital noise artifacts" often present in today's heavily processed (compressed or expanded) video content and smoothes jagged edges to virtually eliminate MPEG noise and Mosquito noise.

Picture Text Optimizer

Recognizes on-screen text and graphics and processes them in the most optimal way. This unique feature processes on-screen text differently than natural camera images resulting in clear screen elements.

Ambient Light Sensor

Senses the relative brightness of the viewing room and digitally adjusts the screen brightness and contrast to create the perfect environmental balance to maximize your viewing experience.

Advanced Color Management

Digitally enhances primary hues so they appear more natural and vivid. Advanced Color Management also allows professional calibrators to perform precise, reference-standard adjustments to picture quality.

This Fujitsu plasma stole a page out of the Philips flat panel handbook.  Fujitsu is using the Philips style ambient light sensing feature. All “40” models have both DVI and HDMI inputs but none have a built-in ATSC tuner.

Although Fujitsu was one of the first manufacturers in the plasma market they have now pulled out of the plasma manufacturing business. They do however have the best looking plasmas to date. Simply put, the Fujitsu Plasma 's PQ is ahead of the competition. People who have the money buy the Fujitsu P42VHA40US.
