Buying an EDTV is as good as a Panasonic plasma sale

Buying an EDTV is as good as a Panasonic plasma sale

The pricing for the TH-42PWD7UY is like a Panasonic plasma sale. Excellent picture at an excellent price. I won’t go into the pros and cons of EDTV vs. HDTV.

If you’ve got money to burn leave right now and go to the HDTV articles on this site. Otherwise - read on.

Suffice to say that for now and the near future EDTV is the way to go, with one caveat. Your viewing distance should be greater than 8 feet. SDE (screen door effect) is sometimes visible below 8 feet.

For this reason the most popular selling plasma TV (regardless of any of any Panasonic sale ) is the Panasonic industrial line of flat-panel EDTVs. It lacks the usual consumer features such as speakers and a built-in tuner but it’s a great buy and considered to be the best value in the 42 inch size.

Why is the Panasonic TH-42PWD7UY so popular?

  • consistently extraordinary PQ

  • deep blacks (a problem with most flat panels)

  • cheapest “quality” plasma TV

  • enduring quality

  • you can customize your home theater

The Panny’s resolution of 852x480 makes it an EDTV. This EDTV can display HDTV sources but not in their full detail.

The Panasonic EDTVs consistently have excellent picture quality. Although the Panasonic TH-42PWD7UY is light on inputs you can buy extra input cards, like HDMI and install them in the available slots. This allows you to customize your home-theater setup with an inexpensive, yet quality plasma TV.

Although the Panny is missing other “consumer” features it’s not a big deal. You can use your cable (or satellite) set box top as a tuner and buy an inexpensive home theater system. The remote is basic you’ll need to buy a good universal as well.

If you want to have this plasma “ready to go” out of the box consider the consumer version of this EDTV.  To get similar pricing you should wait for a Panasonic plasma sale to land the Panasonic TH-42PWD7UY.
