Since Pioneer's Elite PRO-1110HD has a built-in ATSC tuner it can be called a true HDTV.

The picture quality on this plasma is excellent. The picture detail is almost seamless. It uses an external box for all of its inputs.

This two-boxed plasma system consists of the plasma chassis (box #1) containing two plugs for the system cable that leads to the media receiver (box #2). The media receiver has all the connectivity:

  • two RF ins (and outs) for antenna or cable and another for the antenna that gets over-the-air HDTV

  • one shared composite and S-video

  • a composite and S-video pair that's shared with a component input

  • another separate component input

  • two FireWire inputs

  • two HDMI connections

  • an optical out for the Dolby Digital audio from the HD feed

  • component/S-video/composite trio

  • a PC HD-15 connector are on the front

The backlit, self-learning (has built-in codes for many products) remote is a dream. It has specific buttons for four favorite channels as well as aspect-ratio controls and direct-input access.

In the past Pioneer plasmas have been known to have noisy fans which annoy some people.  Strangely enough Pioneer has silenced the plasma but now the media receiver has the noisy fan.

As you've seen if you've read through our plasma TV buying guides the Pioneer will need to be calibrated. Out of the box it is way too bright and needs to have its picture preset changed. As I said before the PQ is almost flawless. It has a noise-reduction systems that when kept in low mode works very well.

The Pioneer's Elite PRO-1110HD’s black level isn't as good as the Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY's but no plasma TV that I’ve seen can beat the Pannys in blackness. No one except the fussiest videophile would even notice the blacks if you watched this TV with any amount of ambient light. The Pioneer's Elite PRO-1110HD color detail and accuracy are superb. This flat panel monitor is highly recommended.
