This Sony plasma 42 HDTV can't measure up to other plasmas in its class
This Sony plasma 42 HDTV (KE-42TS2 model) has outstanding picture quality, stylish appearance, but like all Sony products a very expensive price tag. Sony markets this plasma under its WEGA brand.
This Sony KE-42TS2 is a television, not a display and includes an integrated TV tuner, a stylish design, loudspeakers (9-watt underpowered speakers), and most of the input sockets you'll need.
This is an older generation flat panel TV. Check out the latest Sony plasma TV.
It's native resolution 1024i (1024 x 1024 pixels) offers vivid, lifelike colors, above average brightness, good overall contrast.
The Sony KE-42TS2 also delivers a fine picture when mated to a high definition signal and a natural, realistic feel with fast screen motion. When you switch to DVD the PQ continues to satisfy. Most picture settings are quite good out of box.
The Sony Wega KE-42TS2 has a variety of video sources:
four A/V inputs including composite
S-video, component video, and DVI connections
built-in DVI-HDCP support
The Sony KE-42TS2 has a display resolution of 1024 x 1024. The DVI-HDTV, component video and RGB inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, 480i and 480p, and will display them as 1024 x 1024. All other input signals will also be displayed as 1024 x 1024.
Like most plasma’s you can stretch and/or zoom a conventional squarish 4:3 program and make it fill up this Sony plasma 42 HDTV ‘s wide screen. Other image-adjustment options include:
color temperature control
five picture presets
3:2 pulldown that reduces artifacts.
This Sony plasma is equipped with a "CineMotion Reverse 3/2 Pulldown Processing function" the KE-42TS2 minimizes motion artifacts and optimizes film-based content from any video input for the purest reproduction of film-originated sources.
Unfortunately this Sony plasma 42 HDTV can’t deliver the deep dark blacks contrasts vital for that three-dimensional look in dim lighting. Unlike the best in its class this Sony plasma 42 HDTV lacks the vital, rich contrast and three-dimensionality of the Fujitsu or Panasonic. The Pioneer plasmas are also a better product.
The Sony plasma 42 HDTV ‘s can’t compete with some of the other finer plasmas on the market today. Unless you really believe in Sony I’d buy a Panasonic or Pioneer(Fujitsu is too expensive for me).
